VALENTINA DALDEGAN

Valentina Daldegan is a Brazilian conductor, flutist, and music educator whose work bridges performance, research, and pedagogy. She currently serves as conductor of the Orquestra Uninter, a wind orchestra that has gained increasing recognition in Curitiba’s cultural scene since 2023, noted for its artistic versatility and commitment to both traditional and contemporary repertoire.

Dr. Daldegan has extensive experience in ensemble leadership, with a particular focus on educational and community-based orchestral work. Since 1996, she has conducted the Suzuki Flute Group of Curitiba, where she has developed long-term pedagogical and artistic projects grounded in collective music-making and early instrumental education. Her conducting is marked by a strong emphasis on musical expressivity, collaborative practice, and the integration of innovative teaching methodologies into ensemble performance.

She holds a Ph.D. in Music from the Federal University of Paraná (Brazil) and a Ph.D. in Scienze Pedagogiche from the University of Bologna (Italy), including a doctoral exchange at Lund University (Sweden) under the supervision of Anders Lüngar Chapelon. Her research centers on interpretative poetics in contemporary music for flute, reflecting her ongoing engagement with new music and experimental practices.

She earned her Master’s degree in Music from the Federal University of Paraná, focusing on extended techniques and contemporary approaches in beginner flute pedagogy. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná and a Teaching Degree in English Language from the Federal University of Paraná.

As a flutist, Dr. Daldegan has performed widely in chamber music settings, collaborating in ensembles such as Duo Fla-π (with pianist Beatriz Furlaneto), a duo with guitarist Orlando Fraga, and projects with Jeferson Ulbrich. She has also been a member of Nova Camerata, an ensemble dedicated to Brazilian contemporary music. Her performance career includes numerous premieres of new works, often in collaboration with internationally acclaimed artists such as Teodoro Anzellotti (accordion), Valentino Marrè (percussion), and Nicola Baroni (cello).

Her artistic and academic work is closely connected through her contributions as a researcher, with publications in the fields of music education, performance, and contemporary music. She serves as Director of Scientific Events for the Brazilian Flutists Association (ABRAF), contributing to the development of research and artistic exchange within the flute community.

Dr. Daldegan has received advanced training in major music education methodologies. She is a certified Suzuki Method instructor, having studied as a scholarship recipient at East Tennessee State University with Rebecca Paluzzi and Toshio Takahashi. She has also pursued specialized training in Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory at Michigan State University, working directly with the method’s creator.

In addition to her artistic career, she is Coordinator of Graduate (Lato Sensu) Programs in Education at Uninter International University Center, where she plays a key role in shaping teacher education and interdisciplinary academic initiatives.
